The Rushmore German Club takes pride in presenting the highly anticipated Sommerfest, a 9-day extravaganza held every August at the Central States Fair in Rapid City. Locally, our Sommerfest is affectionately known as 'The German Tent' or "The Beer Tent."

Our inaugural Sommerfest at the Fair took place in 1982, and since then, attendance has steadily grown year after year. The festival tent, measuring an impressive 60' x 150', is consistently filled to overflow capacity, particularly on weekends, offering a fantastic way to spend a day at the Central States Fair.

 

A highlight of the festivities is the performance by Rick Borger and the Average German Band from the Denver area, a perennial favorite at Sommerfest. The evenings resonate with lively dance music, including popular novelty numbers like the Alligator, Train Dance, March Dance, Austrian Wedding Dance, and the ever-popular Chicken Dance.
